TRAVEL to, Arts and Crafts Nurtured in Shiga VOL.3
Period July 6 (Sat.), 2024 ー 2025.Late June, 2025
Outline
From Shigaraki ware pottery to Art Brut and the creative activities of people with disabilities, the arts and crafts are thriving in Shiga Prefecture.
The “TRAVEL to, Arts and Crafts Nurtured in Shiga” corner delves deeper into the charms of this distinctive art from Shiga Prefecture.
This corner was established in 2022 to convey the appeal of “Arts and Crafts Nurtured in Shiga.” To do so, it displays works by Shiga artists while also exploring the process behind these works and some characteristic features of Shiga Prefecture itself.
This third such exhibition introduces two artists: Suzuki Yui, an artist active in Shigaraki, Koka City; and Satoda Yuki, a member of Notogawa Sagyosho, a welfare facility for people with disabilities in Higashiomi City.
Suzuki creates paintings and ceramics themed around the casual sensations and occurrences of daily life. Satoda produces her own unique objects by tearing paper into tiny pieces and scattering them on a surface.
With their rich colors and dreamlike atmospheres, the works of these two creators reveal a new aspect of these “Arts and Crafts Nurtured in Shiga.”
We hope this exhibition serves as a guidepost on your journey around the art of Shiga Prefecture.
Finally, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Suzuki Yui, Satoda Yuki, and Notogawa Sagyosho for lending their works and to everyone whose support made this exhibition possible.
