Hosaka Kenjiro became the museum’s 13th director on January 1, 2021, and in line with the name change to the Shiga Museum of Art as of April 1, 2021, updated the image of the museum as conveyed in its mottoes to “a living room in a park” or “a museum like a living room.” From a formal space to a place for relaxation: museums change with the times.
An assembly of triangles reminiscent of the museum’s large roof forms the letters “M” and “S,” and also seems to evoke the shapes of fish leaping in the water and birds taking flight. It conveys an image of the museum making a positive splash in the community as if jumping into the nearby Lake Biwa, and engaging in communication with people from all walks of life.
Various renewal measures have been carried out, such as updating galleries and facilities to current standards required for museums, and renovation work such as improving the children’s space and laboratory.
